Sensor management policies to provide application QoS
نویسندگان
چکیده
Wireless sensor networks are uniquely characterized by tight energy and bandwidth constraints. These networks should be designed to provide enough data to their application so that a reliable description of the environment can be derived, while operating as energy-efficiently as possible and at the same time meeting bandwidth constraints. These goals are typically contradicting and must be balanced at the point where the application is best satisfied. In this paper, we address the problem of maximizing lifetime for a wireless sensor network while meeting a minimum level of application quality of service. This maximization is achieved by jointly scheduling active sensor sets and finding paths for data routing. significantly increased through optimized several heuristic methods. Simulation results show that several heuristic policies can achieve near optimal network lifetime. 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Taxonomy for QoS specifications
* It is becoming increasingly commonplace for multiple applications with different quality of service (QoS) requirements to share the resources of a distributed system. Within this environment, the resource management algorithms must take into account the QoS desired by applications and the ability of the system resources to provide it. In this paper we present a taxonomy for specifying QoS for...
متن کاملPolicy Specification and Architecture for Quality of Service Management
An application’s Quality of Service (QoS) requirements refers to non-functional, run-time requirements. These requirements are usually soft in that the application is functionally correct even if the QoS requirement is not satisfied at run-time. QoS requirements are dynamic in that for a specific application, they change. The ability to satisfy an application’s QoS requirement depends on the av...

متن کاملProviding Configurable QoS Management in Real-Time Systems with QoS Aspect Packages
Current quality of service (QoS) management approaches in real-time systems lack support for configurability and reusability as they cannot be configured for a target application or reused across many applications. In this paper we present the concept of a QoS aspect package that enables developing configurable QoS management for real-time systems. A QoS aspect package represents both the speci...
